EUGENE, Ore. — Heavy rain and potentially damaging winds are taking aim at Western Oregon Friday night. The most significant rain and wind storm of the season is prompting a KVAL Weather Alert Day Friday.
The National Weather Service in Portland
has issued a mosaic of watches, warnings, and advisories for the end of
the week. High wind warnings are in effect for the higher elevations of
Lane, Linn, Benton, and Lincoln Counties from Friday afternoon to early
Saturday morning. Wind gusts could near 50-55 mph in these locations.
The potential for damaging winds comes with a Wind Advisory for the Willamette Valley as gusts could near 45 mph form Friday morning to Saturday morning.
High
Surf Advisories are in place for the shoreline of Coos and Douglas
County Sunday morning through Monday morning. Breaking wave heights
could near 20-26 ft.
Oregon's first atmospheric river brings a parade of storm to the region Friday afternoon and works its way south through the overnight hours. Rainfall amounts from Friday to early Monday morning will range anywhere from 2" to 3.5". Wet weather is expected to continue through Monday.
Despite
seeing an increase chance in rain, temperatures will warm closer to
normal along the coast and in the valleys Friday into Saturday. Skies
will gradually clear next week with some of the coldest temperatures of
the season expected. Many valley locations could fall below freezing for
the first time this fall by Wednesday morning.
