I'm watching on the weather map as the what looks to be an Atmospheric River slowly moves south as the wind appears to right now be blowing the stream towards the Northeast. This slow progression is supposed to bring rain to almost all parts of California and up to 4 feet of snow in the Cascades and Sierra mountain ranges.
The last storm to hit Interstate 80 caused a complete snow snafu because of cars without chains sliding off the road and clogging Interstate 80 over the main mountain passes so cars and trucks were stuck up to 6 hours or more waiting while it was snowing for CHP (California Highway Patrol) to open the road once again. The ONLY interstate that takes people over the Sierras is Interstate 80 by the way here in California.
So, what this actually means in real time is that the only Interstate going over the Sierras for 400 miles (the length north to south) of the Sierra Mountain range is Interstate 80.
