At a Quantum level things are both Waves and particles at the same time. How does one deal with this truth?

I don't claim to be a scientist that fully understands quantum mechanics. However, if something can be both a wave and a particle simultaneously then what is it really? It's only when we get to the quantum level that things can actually be both waves and particles at the same time. And what does this really mean?
