In other words they harm the American public if the American Government puts tariffs on anything. The logic of putting Tariffs on China makes sense but if you really want to completely destroy the U.S. economy putting tariffs on Canada and Mexico will screw up not only Canada and Mexico but also the U.S. economy where we won't be competitive with Europe or China or Japan anymore.
So, all the good will that Canada has built up since 1867 just after the Civil War will be destroyed if Trump puts Tariffs on Canadian goods. There is really no debate about this at all at this point.
It's sort of like declaring a trade war on your friends.
If you are a student of history you could say that the Trade wars the U.S. was involved in helped create world war II itself during the Great Depression.
(even though likely the real culprit of both the Great Depression AND World War II likely was Herbert Hoover who tried to run the U.S. like a business and failed utterly
(Mostly because a Government is NOT a business. A government exists only to serve and to protect the people of that nation.
If it doesn't do that then all governments tend to collapse over time and revolutions start instead.
So, what is the logic behind Trump's tariffs if not the destruction of the U.S. Government (and for what purposes)?
