I mentioned in another article about going down Castle Lake Road before it was plowed on a Flexible Flyer sled with steel runner (could be aluminum too but likely steel) at around 35 miles per hour. we leaned to the left to turn left and pulled the wooden bar to the left to turn left and the same kind of thing for turning right by pulling bar to the right while leaning off the sled some to the right. This was likely the most fun I ever had on a sled doing this years ago now in Mt. Shasta on the Castle lake road with friends. However, you had to go face forward to keep a low enough profile while lying down with your hands on the wooden steering bar in the front not to be thrown into trees. Not for the faint of heart or not
co-ordinated enough to do this. It was sort of like skiing on a sled then. The road to castle lake had about 5 to 10 inches of snow on it which was perfect conditions for optimum sledding at night then. And one of us drove a car with the headlights behind us so we could see good enough to do this. Great fun sort of like with the same dangers as skiing pretty much. You have to know what you are doing for it to be safe enough to do at all. but for me it was the funnest experience sledding of my entire life. but, I think the ground and pavement would likely have to be frozen enough to not melt the snow from underneath too to make all this work. So, you need the right snow and ground conditions for this too.
