Learning to be practical

I was telling someone this last night: "You can have all sorts of feelings about all sorts of things but unless you are practical you don't survive."

And you can apply this to almost anything in your life.

As a young man I was very idealistic like many people I knew.

On one level this isn't wrong. The problem is idealism isn't always survivable.

Why?

If your idealism takes you to places that might not be survivable for you or others then you might not survive.

Everyone's life is different and the problem is:

"You don't know what you know until you know it."

In otherwords if you don't see the problem often the problem takes you out because you have no knowledge of it at all.

As a young person I experienced this also many times.

As a result I tend to look at life as a Science Experiment.

Especially in regard to relationships with people.

You really don't know what is going to happen sometimes unless you reach out and try to be friends with someone.

It's true you can be rejected and this also is a part of life.

However, I have learned to say things with more than one meaning and if they choose the one I want then if I want that I would go with that.

But, if what they choose I feel embarrassed by I can say: "OH. I didn't mean it that way I meant it this way."

And so you can find ways to save face this way.

I developed this into a really great skill in regard to people this way especially girlfriends from 15 to 25 years of age (my ages).

So, learning to be very practical in all ways keeps you alive and happy a lot longer than running from the truths in life.

Survival is more about being practical in the end than anything else.

You might not like that this is true and I might not like that this is true but it actually is the way life Is.
