People are often very "Crafty" and creative up here in the mountains and making art and such that might be good for Christmas Gifts for friends and relatives so my wife and friends are very into arts and crafts and my daughter and her husband and baby are visiting from Europe for a couple of weeks and so we all went to the crafts fair at College of the Siskiyous last weekend.
I took some classes there around 1990 which were a Logics Class and a Public Speaking Class. However, the students were angry at me and a friend of the family because we were both in our 40s and they felt they couldn't compete with us regarding public speaking because they were mostly 18 to 20 years old without enough real life experience to guide them. And it is true both of us got As in the class so it might have been harder for younger students to get as good of a grade because of our maturity.
However, it was great experience take a Speech Class like that. Also, I learned in Logics Class from our professor there that his opinion was that public Schools nationwide have become more like reformatories for kids rather than places of education. He was saying that either home schooling or a private school now is the only way to really get a good education which I fully agree with.
When I went to public school, especially in junior High and High School often I felt I had to get a C in classes where getting an A might endanger your life from gang members.
So, I wasn't always an A Student until my last year of High School at a private school and going into college.
Also, in college all the people that are a problem in public schools who aren't forced to go there are often not in colleges at all and so you don't have to worry about dying so much from people who are crazy in college as much.
This is at least the way it was in the 1960s and early 1970s when I was going to High school and college in Glendale and then a private school in Santa Fe, New Mexico my last year of High School.
