Drove up into snow on Mt. Shasta today. 60 degrees at Bunny Flat and 70 in Town!

Pretty crazy weather huh! especially because the morning of this drive it was 28 degrees in Town. So, if you are on the mountain at altitude you can only imagine how cold it got then.

But, when we got there s lot of snow had melted off but from the looks of the weather today more snow will be falling on Mt. Shasta soon.

Today in town it is presently 57 degrees and it's supposed to start raining tomorrow  and snow on Tuesday and Wednesday (likely more rain than snow in town though. So, it might start to snow again Montday or Tuesday up on the mountain too as a result.

I had walked up a snow trail when I first got out of the hospital from my hernia operation. almost a month ago now and this time I was able to walk about 8 times as far at altitude to where skiers on mountaineering cross country skis were skiing down and taking off their skis in the snow. I put on my Sorel Snow Boots that are rubber up to your ankles and leather up to your mid calf or further with wool inserts so your feet stay warm to do this because I was walking through up to 5 inches of snow or more.

However, I was a little worried for our dog (a blue merle Corgi because I had on Sunglasses to prevent snow blindness from the snow in full sun and she did not. So, I didn't stay up there very long because my ex-wife had snow blindness for a week where she couldn't see anything but sparks when she forgot her sunglasses or ski goggles in the 1980s. So, I wanted our dog not to experience that.

The beginning danger signs for a human regarding snow blindness is when you start to see purpling (everything starts to look more violet or purple) then you need to get out of the sun glinting off the snow pretty quick. And even if it purples a little your eyes might hurt some for a few days even if you don't get snow blindness.

Anyway, I notice she doesn't want to be outside on the veranda today because her eyes might hurt a little from the sun. However, she had a really great time playing in the snow. She loves the snow and rolls in it and cavorts around happily in it every time.

And people at bunny flat had put out their folding camp chairs and were sitting in the sun a lot there really happy to be there next to their cars. And many had mountaineering skis and a few had snowmobiles for snow play downslope of Bunny Flat because they aren't allowed on bunny Flat or above there on the mountain.

However, you are allowed to ski or snowboard all the way to the summit of the mountain if you can survive doing this. (some don't). The biggest reason you have to be careful is the altitude and snow icing up where you cannot stop a snowboard or skis.

However, it was a beautiful day in the city of mt. Shasta and at bunny flat since it was 70 in the city and 60 at bunny flat yesterday.

But, today I see the storm coming in for the next 3 or 4 days now but it is still beautiful here always.
