At the time I was dealing with a bursa on my right heel that whenever I walked it burned like a lit flame was burning my heel. So, this was distressing for me because it lasted a year or two. So, at the time my solution was to buy myself this motorcycle so I didn't feel so old and out of it from having my (foot onfire) anytime I walked anywhere.
MY wife understood enough about my condition that I needed to do something to get my old mojo back somehow. At the time I was 61 years old, however. So, even though I had been riding two wheeled motorized vehicles off and on since I was about 10 or 12 years old (I was still 61 years old) and wanted to stay alive for my wife and Kids.
However, I really loved this bike because you could literally ride it anywhere. It was perfectly happy to ride 70 mph down the freeway or on back paved roads or slower on dirt or rock roads everywhere you might want to ride it.
However, if you have never ridden off a paved road just remember you cannot ever pretty much use your front brake or you are going to lay that bike down. So, whenever you stop you are either downshifting or using your rear brake and that's all.
In fact, I found myself a couple of times using the front brake in difficult situations where I laid the bike down when I didn't want to. One time was there were too many people's vehicles parked in front of my house to see a small Honda Car coming up the street so as I entered the street I had nowhere to go but to go into the dirt of my neighbor's yard and because I was surprised I put on the front brake and this laid the bike down in my neighbors dirt garden. Then the Honda driver felt sorry for me and helped me lift the bike up again because he saw what I had to do to survive this moment and realized I couldn't see him at all because of the parked cars.
So, even when you are a good rider both on and off road there are still weird situations that come up that you have to deal with
But, I rented a Uhaul Trailer and towed it behind my truck in 2010 when my wife and I and our kids rented a house on Lake Siskiyou and trailered my 2009 KLR 650 up to Mt. Shasta which was really fun too for a month. However, most of the time I enjoyed the most just cruising along the ocean somewhat near San Franciso out on the Pacific Ocean the most. It was a great bike but then I got a hernia from a burst appendix operation and wasn't supposed to lift over 40 pounds for about the last 10 years so I finally gave it away to a friend last summer who fixed the clutch and got it running really well once again. But, I really miss that bike because it was an amazing thing to own and could go anywhere sort of like a 4 wheel drive Jeep or something like that.
But, it's true I still have my 4 wheel drive Tundra that has a small 8 you cannot get anymore that gets 20 mpg in overdrive which is nice too.
However, I'm now basically 78 no longer 61 and I have to rethink all these things now I repaired my hernia with the best robotic Hernia repair surgeon on the west coast of California. But I don't think my wife will let me buy another bike this size anyway.
So, maybe we will get a jeep with a fold down front window? or something like this to feel the wind through our hair while driving along the beaches of California or wherever?
We'll see.
