I'm writing this in regard to hacking (regarding AI) to show you how you only have to be right once

This following story is a perfect example of only having to be right once (regarding hacking). When this group led by Ramzi Yousef tried to blow up the Twin Towers in New YOrk they failed because they didn't have the engineering expertise of Osama bin Laden. Though he may or may not have fully graduated as a Structural Engineer his education regarding building stresses led him to realize that a passenger Jet could bring down the two Twin Towers.

So, then let's take this to AI: What if there was an Osama Bin Laden type of Attack on the Software infrastructure of the EU or the U.S. or Japan or South Korea?

The point is just like with 9-11 you only have to be right in your engineering assumptions once whereas to defend against something like this you have to be right every time which might be a statistical impossibility regarding AI.

So, likely at some point (somewhere in the world) there will be someone (or some nation) that destroys the software infrastructure of a whole nation. However, this would likely be so consequential it could easily lead to nuclear war worldwide. So, this is likely why it hasn't happened yet.

This kind of Software failure of all banks and electrical generating stations in any country all at once would cause a war of epic proportions any way you look at it.

So, this is presently the danger of the latest Version of Anthropic's AI if it were released to the public without some safeguards being put in place worldwide.

begin quotes:
While Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda were not the primary masterminds of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, they provided critical support for the attempt.
  • The 1993 Attack: On February 26, 1993, terrorists led by Ramzi Yousef detonated a 1,200-pound urea nitrate-hydrogen gas truck bomb in the North Tower's underground parking garage.
  • The Goal: The intent was to topple the North Tower into the South Tower, which would have killed thousands of people.
  • Specific Targets: The bomb was placed on level B-2 to destroy the foundation pillars of the North Tower. The explosion created a crater 100 feet wide but failed to collapse the building.
  • Bin Laden’s Involvement:
    • Training: Mastermind Ramzi Yousef had trained in an al-Qaeda camp in Afghanistan.
    • Financing: Bin Laden’s name appeared as a financier of the group during the subsequent investigation.
    • Personnel: The Brooklyn-based cell that carried out the attack was assisted by operatives on bin Laden’s payroll.
  • Connection to 9/11: The 1993 bombing is often described as a "deadly dress rehearsal" for 9/11. Yousef's uncle, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who later became the principal architect of the September 11 attacks, had wired money to Yousef for the 1993 bombing.
