One week ago today I had my hernia operation in Redding California with the best robotic Hernia Surgeon on the West Coast who grew up there. Even the nurses sang his praises and one male nurse said his wife had had her gall bladder removed by him too which was amazing to hear too.
However, now the first week has passed and though the whole thing so far has been an ordeal like you can imagine if you had a big hernia next to your belly button for around 10 years which affected your walk and many other things in life and reduced a lot in your life what you could do. I even had to give up my motorcycle this last year because it was a KLR 650 Dualsport that I could no longer lift off the ground if it fell over which is something you have to be able to do especially in the dirt because a bike going down in the dirt is going to happen sooner or later. So, if you can't safely lift your bike off the ground you are stranded in the wilderness miles often away from other people.
However, if you want to have parts available more easily for around the world travel on a motorcycle I would recomment a KLR 650 simply because parts are more available worldwide than a similar BMW motorcycle that many people travel around the world on exploring the world.
However, with the Iran war and Ukraine War with Russia involved in both I likely would avoid Ukraine and Russia and Iran right now traveling around the world.
However, to most people this is obvious.
So, today I woke up feeling very groggy partly because maybe the full moon and the psychological implications of what happened to me in the operation a week ago today.
So, there is some trauma involved in getting back your life (a new life) in an operation like this where I might even be able to lift a motorcycle again (maybe a smaller one than a 650 like maybe a BMW 450 GS? (which I just found out is street legal too which is great for someone who wants a street legal motorcycle that can go literally anywhere on earth on any paved or dirt road or even 4 wheel drive road or trail.
So, if you are going to have a robotic Hernia operation it is a different experience in that nowadays you can have this done with basically no real scars on your body where the little robot (hands?) or really small robotic tools (ONLY) go inside your body through teeny little incisions that heal up relatively quickly.
I had hoped to not have to have screening (mesh) but my doctor was telling me that he has done about 5000 to 6000 Robotic Hernia surgeries so far and NONE of his patients ever had any trouble with their Mesh Screens.
Also, in a robotic surgery your hernia is completely sewed closed by the robotic technology completely by really small stitches which makes your outcome much better too usually.
I was worried not about the surgery but rather the Anesthesia because I'm 77 years old. I knew the surgery would be good. However, because I haven't gone to doctors a lot especially between ages 15 and 45 years of age for anything (unless it was for stitches in hands or fingers or stuff like this). and in 2022 I got a gash on my left shin in Teton national Park on Jenny lake disembarking from the boat in higher wind caused waves there. So, this was the last set of stitches I had to receive doing something outdoorsy like that.
I had those stitches removed in Banff in Canada about 10 days later after traveling through Teton Nationa Park, Yellowstone national Park and staying at the Old Faithful Lodge next to Old Faithful Geyser which goes off sort of like clockwork 24 hours a day and people gather to watch it especially during the day still.
I liked the Health Clinics in Canada a lot the way they do things too by the way. It felt more homey and comfortable in many different ways.
So, one week later I am still recovering but the anesthesia has now worn off enough so I'm safe to drive once again and I was allowed to drive up to Bunny Flats yesterday with my wife and two friends and our dog Blue (a Blue Merle Corgi).
Note: a Blue Merle Corgi is not the black and white Corgi shown even though the Blue Merle is sort of a recessive gene which comes from the Black and white Corgis.
We named our dog blue because she has one blue eye and one brown and blue eye which is always pretty interesting to see in any dog. She loves all people but isn't sure of other dogs or animals. So, she is everyone's friend always and people from around the world often want to come up to her and pet her especially here in California.
