However, the average renewable electricity is almost 50% for most of Europe on Average with both Austria and Denmark at over 90% renewables. The countries that will survive the oil price onslaught the most from Iran and Russia will likely have the highest renewable sources of electricity. It is less of a problem for the U.S. than most non oil producing countries because the U.S. has so much oil in the ground still. However, we still will be affected a lot because of what Russia and Iran are doing blowing up oil wells and oil facilities up throughout the middle east for some time to come it looks like.
begin quotes:
Renewable energy sources generated approximately 24.2% of U.S. electricity in 2024, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). This marks an increase from the 21.4% share in 2023, driven by record-high solar and wind production.
Key Renewable Energy Details (2024–2025):
- Leading Sources: Wind power is the largest renewable source, followed closely by surging solar power, which grew by 37% in early 2025.
- Total Mix: As of early 2025, over half of U.S. electricity generation has, for the first time, been produced by clean sources (renewables and nuclear).
- Record Highs: In March 2025, renewable and clean energy generation set records, with wind and solar reaching 24.4% of total U.S. electricity, often pushing fossil fuels below 50% of the total generation mix.
- Growth: Solar energy was responsible for 81% of all new U.S. power capacity additions in 2024, supported by massive growth in battery storage.
While
renewable energy capacity is expanding rapidly, fossil fuels (natural
gas and coal) still contribute nearly half of the total, and total
energy production (which includes transportation) has a lower renewable
percentage than electricity generation alone.
