In it's own way it reminds me a little of ET the Extraterrestrial which skyrocketed Drew Barrymore to fame too.
IN this one it is 1979 (I would have been 31 in 1979) and my son was 5 years old so I can relate to the era completely in how people tended to think and feel then which is much different than now on many fronts. For example, one of our housekeepers wasn't even born until 1978 who will turn 48 this year. So, this was an erat Spielberg can relate to as well which is why he made it seem like 1979 in the movie.
