Could anything but profit steer AI? The OpenAI trial offered clues but no verdict

I think unless AI is governed ONLY by actual human needs of various kinds that AI will always be a disaster at some point for mankind. Motivation of why you are creating technology is everything. It's sort of like weapons mankind has made, no matter how awful or horrific the weapon it has  eventually been used in warfare. AI weapons will be the same way no matter how horrific the weapon actually is. History in regard to all weapons is like this.

If AI is designed to help mankind that's okay but all AI weapons will be used at some point to extinct mankind. This is a given given all human history.

It's sort of like the horrific hypersonic Missile that Russia is using against Ukraine. You really cannot stop a 20,000 mph weapon with almost anything at all. I saw one fly into Ukraine and hit and it was unbelievably fast and the Iron dome cannot stop something like this because it is just too fast to stop.
