One of the things that the boys do is to put solar cells covering the whole upper side of the wings and main fuselage. So, if it isn't gliding because of it's large wings sort of like a glider in updrafts it is also being charged (the electric motor) to run at least during the day. Then the battery is running this Eagle more like a Toyota Prius plug in in some ways most of the day. At night is where you might see the gasoline engine start up and generate more power for the battery. I thought you might be interested in knowing more about this aspect of the design of the bald Eagle Drone they are building and testing in "As Drones Evolve".
So, the Eagle is a hybrid between the gasoline engine and the battery and the electric motor that powers the propeller with solar power assist from the solar cells covering the upper side of both wings and top of fuselage and rear tail and rudder of the mostly autonomous drone they build.
