When I gave up Gluten my edema went away

The scenario for this wasn't easy to discover this for me but this is what actually happened between January and February this year.

Though I had given up gluten before and noticed that the pain was less in my hands (likely from aging and arthritis) I made a mistake which was that I replaced the gluten with Rice Flour a lot and this took me into a state called Pre-diabetic. So, I began to eat gluten again (this was 10 years or more again).

However, it is also true that rice flower converts to sugar which increased the sugar in my blood. However, now people have other things they use more than rice flour because others likely had this experience too along the way.

So, now there are things like Cauliflower crust pizza and nut based crackers and even new types of bread of mixed nuts and things other than wheat. So, the rice flour converting you to having too much sugar in your blood isn't the problem it once was now.

So, when I almost died in January from something similar to diverticulitis caused by a naval Hernia I had to go on a liquid diet and while on this liquid diet I realized my edema had completely gone away. As I thought more about this I realized that I might be allergic to some degree to gluten. Also, my daughter who is 37 said she was allergic to Gluten so I realized this might be a genetic Trait. Then I read about other people who had given up gluten and how their edema went away too.

So, if you have edema I would try going without gluten for 2 weeks to a month to see if you get rid of your edema this way. It wouldn't hurt to try this by the way.

Because for me now I NEVER have to take Furosemide or Potassium again to reduce edema symptoms so I can stay alive and not drown in my lungs ever again from fluid buildup.

However, the one thing I still do is I only drink water when my mouth gets dry which prevents getting so much liquid in my body that I have other CHF problems which is the cause of edema in the first place.

So, even though I no longer have edema I still have CHF but now it is much more manageable.

My experience, for example, is I thought before this happened I was going to die several times when it became too hot or humid in places like Hawaii and Austin, Texas when I was visiting my daughter there a couple of years ago. So, this was really hell trying to balance everything with edema in a hot or human climate and to try to stay alive through all of this.

However, I also had an interesting experience where I often didn't have to take Furosemide (Lasix) or Potassium (to replace the potassium loss from a strong diuretic) between the months of November and April as long as I only drank water when my mouth was dry.

Also,  IF you don't take Potassium with your Lasix(furosemide) you can die within a month or two because human body cells cannot survive without Potassium.

So now, I don't have to take Furosemide(lasix) or Potassium ever as long as I don't eat Gluten which just means wheat in any form of flour like in cookies, pastries, breads and cakes and such.

The other side of this is it makes eating a lot less fun (because no wheat based cookies, or breads, or pizza or pasta or cakes).

However, this greatly can contribute to weight loss too and though it is true I'm 6 feet 5 inches tall giving up gluten completely has reduced my weight between 25 and 30 pounds since January too which is also good because I'm 78 years old and I'm still losing weight because food in general is a lot less interesting to me without eating any gluten.

So, this also contributes to living a lot longer too (if that is what you want to do).

By God's Grace
