There are 5,000 passenger planes in the sky in any given moment on earth

If a Solar Flare as big as the Carrington Event took place maybe up to 2500 of them would fall out of the sky because their software would be fried. This would prevent pilots from even flying the plane because of electronic assists to all control surfaces. When those electronic assists to all control surfaces failed all at once along with all software regarding anything on the plane, the next thing would be 2500 passenger planes falling out of the sky.

Self driving cars, trucks and ships on the sea might have a similar fate where software would fry in such a situation. However, the same can occur during an Electromagnetic pulse caused by either a nuclear bomb going off or a military EMP generator used for knocking out all electrical things permanently in any city or area on earth.

When something like this happens all electronic memory like in computers, cell phones, Ipads etc. is permanently destroyed. Anything fried like this you would have to just throw it away until you bought a new one.

Let's say in these 2500 planes on one side of the planet that was facing the sun on average each contained 100 people (on average). Then as you can see there would be at least 250,000 dead people the moment a 2nd Carrington event occurred. And this would just be from passenger planes. On the ground there would be more dead in self driving vehicles of all kinds and then even more in ships.

Then after this imagine whole cities with all electronics fried and the consequences of all this in homes, businesses and governments of all kinds on the side of the planet hit with the Carrington event.

Then consider the genetic damage to all living things on this side of the planet and the short and long term effects of all this too.

And all this is not an IF it is only a When so I expect this likely will happen within 500 to 1000 years.

and depending upon how dependent human civilization is upon computer electronics at that point, whole civilizations could theoretically be wiped out on one side of the planet during such an occurrence depending upon how dependent that civilization was upon existing computer hard drives, memory, Artificial intelligence etc.
