The Mt. Shasta Ski Park closes at the end of the day on Easter Sunday because their insurance runs out for the year. So, we thought we would come up for a few days of skiing before it closed. However, driving up I found out on my smartphone that it is closed Thursday but open Friday Saturday and Easter Sunday. So, this is news.
Anyway it says they still have 10 feet of snow on top of Douglas and plus 5 feet of snow at the lodge which should be plenty of snow for skiing until Sunday or beyond. And also there is still plenty of snow up Everitt Memorial Highway up to Bunny Flat which is as far as the road is plowed and no one is sure yet whether the road will open up to Panther Meadows simply because of the amount of snow. However, a friend of mine who lives up here has seen 1 foot of snow melt in just one over 100 degree day here in town. So, it's possible it all could melt off at some point too, even this much snow!
By the way I was up at Bunny Flat about 3 or 4 weeks ago mountaineering skiing with metal edged Mountaineering skis and the snow was up to 20 feet deep around Bunny Flat parking lot so you had to climb up stairs built into the snow by the Forest Service and volunteers to get up on top of it.
We saw temperatures up to 84 Degrees even in Red Bluff and Redding coming up today in the late afternoon. My wife says she has never seen as much water in Shasta Dam as now in her whole life by the way which I thought was interesting. It was pretty full.
The weather was sunny and beautiful but as we reached Mt. Shasta we saw the tell tale cirrus clouds that often precede a storm within a few days and when I looked at the weather forecast it is supposed to rain in Mt. Shasta, Friday and Saturday and the same for Ashland Oregon as well.
Wildflowers were also beautiful driving up today from the SF Bay ARea today too here in California.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
