My wife and I did the fun walk run at Mt. Shasta at 8:30am this morning. A friend brought some organic cherries he wanted to share before we did this. Other friends were playing music along the route of the fun walk run in the Direction of Sisson School which is a public grade school here in Mt. Shasta. I think the city was once called Sisson likely around the time this school was named. My son went to kindergarten here at this school before I home schooled him in the early 1980s also. Today he is here with his 5 year old son too from Oregon. Beautiful day and this year no smoke like last year. Last year by the 5th of July I had to leave Mt. Shasta because I couldn't breathe at this altitude in the smoke. Last year they had 40 days straight of smoke from fires from July 5th on. But, this year I don't think the fire season will even begin until August or September because of all the snow and rain this El Nino year even into may even down in the SF Bay area rain hit all time records for May. Because usually all the rains stop by April sometime on the California coast but not this year. In the forests around where I live on the coast wildflowers were still blooming and green grass was still coming up even on July 1st this year which is very unusual. So, no big fires yet that I have seen in California so far even into July 4th.
There were thousands of people here for the fun walk and fun run this morning with the Mt. Shasta Walk Run T-shirts from this year with running numbers on the back for placement in races.
Tonight there will be fireworks over Lake Siskiyou likely around 9 pm.
