Biggest Moose I ever saw was in Teton National park backpacking

We had hiked and backpacked about 5 miles or so from my old Chevy Window Van then (which is likely in the 1980s. Actually, my step son had just graduated high school so this likely was 1990 and he had won a scholarship to an Audabon Camp in Wyoming for a week or so. So, we were driving in our window van there to drop him off at the Audabon camp there for a week while we backpacked and camped with the other 3 kids ages from about 16, 15 and around 2 or 3 years old then. So, we had backpacked in with our 3 year old and I was probably about 42 then. At night there was a full moon and so we decided to walk around in the full moon because it was so very beautiful that summer.

Then to our complete surprise we saw the biggest bull Moose we had ever seen with a rack about 8 feet across (these things get really really big by the way) and he was in a small lake between us and our campsite. So, we really didn't want to get into the territory of something this big. So, his head would stand about 8 to 10 feet high at the top. IF you have ever been around Moose they are gigantic. I once (on this same trip) walked by a teenage moose and I'm 6 foot 5 inches tall and my head only barely came up to a teenagers shoulder if that. And he wasn't even full grown. And even the teenager made me feel sort of insignificant there out in the wilds walking past my 15 year old son and myself and sort of uncomfortable. We decided that day to move our campsite because other campers told us about a Grizzly bear bothering other campers nearby. So, after we had broken camp and sent the women ahead we got the tent and cookstove and things like this and that's when we saw the teenage Moose. But, the 8 foot wide rack moose at 8 to 10 feet high the night before was very formidable in the moonlight so we kept our distance while we tramped way around him in the bright moonlight while he ate plants from the bottom of the lake around midnight that night.

If you ever get a chance to be with the wild life of Yellowstone national Park or Teton national Park do it because it is an unforgettable experience. We also found a colony of Marmots living near one of the places we backpacked too which are very furry amazing creatures too.
