Help! The world is moving too fast!
I think the real reason both the Fiscal Cliff and December 21, 2012 have caught on is that most people on earth are saying to themselves something like, "Hey. This is really crazy the way things are going and how can even intelligent people actually relate to all the changes or begin to deal with them let alone some who aren't really educated at all or others not even playing with a full deck?"
So, the extreme reaction to both the Fiscal Cliff and December 21st 2012 could create a recession or worse. But, if it does do we really have anyone to blame but ourselves? Oh. We could blame the media for the way they talk about all this. But that is like blaming commercials for your buying a new car when you couldn't really afford the monthly payments and buy food to stay alive and still pay your rent.
So, in the end it is only about personal responsibility of all your adult actions. Other people can get hysterical and ruin their lives but you have to remain calm somehow so you can make good decisions so you can take care of your family and friends even if everybody else goes and jumps off of cliffs like lemmings.
Note: I wrote the above after reading this article from PBS:

To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
