Designer Babies?

The problem with designer babies is that you might be able to choose what color eyes and what color hair and what color skin and what diseases it will not have genetically speaking.

However, what they don't tell you is that by doing this for everyone it might cause the human race to go extinct eventually if enough people do this!


You might say "What?"

Yes. Exactly.

The problem is a little like GMO foods. Yes, you can design food genetically but human bodies were not designed to consume Genetically modified foods ever. So, the end result is anyone allergic to GMO foods is dying of allergies all over the world. 2nd, it also makes the 2nd or 3rd generation of people who consume enough GMO food not to be able to ever have children.

Whereas with designer babies it is a little different problem. It all depends upon just how many people are doing this. If it is only the most rich and elite it might be okay. However, if the middle class and lower classes do this too then the whole human race likely is in trouble.

Here's the problem. We are all mongrels so to speak like dogs from the pound. We are not usually purebreds. This makes us generally more intelligent and strong immunologically and physically (generally speaking).

Next, no one knows exactly what is going to happen on earth next. It is the sheer randomness of what has always happened on earth that lets some creatures (including man) survive and some don't.

For example, the size of the dinosaurs killed them when a piece of asteroid hit the earth 65 million years ago in the Gulf of Mexico. However, dinosaurs that lived in the ocean survived like whales, and dinosaurs that lived in cracks in the earth and could squeeze into cave survived too. But, the big wild dinosaurs all died because there was no food on land and it wasn't warm enough for them to stay alive either because a "nuclear winter" existed for several years so nothing really grew much. So, sea creatures and cave and crevice and deep lake creatures survived and big dinosaurs starved to death and froze to death during this time.

The same is true of humans now. We don't know what is going to happen here on earth. So, the more diverse our genetics are the more likely some of us will survive anything, even if it is only one man and one woman to carry forward somehow.

So, designer babies lessens the number of genetic possibilities by it's very nature and reduces the possibility of human survival therefore on into the future.
