This is the real problem the western World Faces now. The propaganda machine of ISIS(ISIL) is maybe the foremost propaganda device on earth at present. However, it might be important to understand that the best at propaganda before this in the 1980s was the United States. We were so effective at propaganda through our media that the Soviet Union collapsed on it's own eventually without a bloody war at all between the U.S. and Russia directly.
So, finding our message is the most important thing here, maybe more than any other single factor.
So, the question becomes (What is the position we take and how do we define ourselves so ISIS can be defeated?)
But, remember justice for Sunnis in Syria and justice for Shias in Syria and Iraq and Iran is equally important as well.
However, if you wipe out ISIS genociders because they are wiping out Shias, Christians, and everyone else who isn't extremist Sunni then you have failed too because you haven't factored in that ISIS was established to protect the 9 to 12 million displaced Sunnis in Syria. So, forgetting this is extremely problematic too.
Understanding that Sunnis want a Caliphate that is Sunni and are using ISIS to do this and that Sunnis aren't all in ISIS because they are crazy PTSD beheading militants (that's only a minority for propaganda purposes).
So, part o the problem is only the extremes are winding up on the media and not the real nuts and bolts things that are actually going on in the minds of those joining ISIS both male and female mostly young people from around the world.
So, creating an effective propaganda message (as effective as ISIS propaganda is upon young extremist Sunnis) is necessary for this thing to EVER end.
And in the meantime Putin is smiling while we waste our money fighting ISIS(ISIL) while he is busy taking over Europe one city at a time with Russian Tanks (that he says aren't really there at all).
