North

This might be important for those of you traveling north to Oregon from California on Interstate 5. The smoke from fires(South of 299) in Mt. Shasta Got worse this morning so we were sort of glad to move further north. By about Ashland and Grants Pass the smoke faded out somewhat. But, likely you are going to see smoke between you and the sun still from about Williams in California up to Ashland or Grants Pass in Oregon on interstate 5. This doesn't necessarily mean you will smell the smoke it just means the sun will be orange or red if you can see it at all through the smoke. For example, most of the time I couldn't even see mt. shasta (the part above tree line (from 9,000 feet up to 14,000 plus feet) from the City of Mt. Shasta anywhere in town the smoke was so thick coming up 50 or more miles as the crow flies from the south side of 299 in the Trinity Alps from 5 large fires likely still burning (or just smoking) from there.

But, by Eugene I could see no more smoke just high clouds and sunlight. But, as we neared Portland I saw that to our west and north there must be another fire likely in Washington near the coast somewhere because of the way the clouds and smoke color played together during the sunset.

It was in the 80s (Fahrenheit) when we arrived in Portland which seemed a little warm but we were glad to be done driving for the day.
