Why are White Police shooting Black men that are unarmed? With Body cams we are seeing more video of this happening.
It has always been this way but now I think the question must be asked. "Why?"
The reason is because they don't understand the mannerisms of black men. You could call this racism.
But, I think it just usually means they never had any black friends growing up, so they never understood the reality of a black men and so they are afraid of them and so when a white policeman gets scared often a black man gets shot.
How do you change this?
I don't really know. But, I believe by asking the question in a useful way might start to begin a solution.
One potential solution would be to pair a white policeman with a black one, especially for new officers coming into the police forces. Because it appears like it is mostly younger white officers shooting black men are between the ages of 21 and 30. So, pairing a young white policeman with a black one might be a relatively easy solution to this problem. By learning to trust a partner of a different race it would I believe start to change these outcomes to better ones.
