After reading the last few articles on China I quoted here I don't think the authors of those articles are wrong (from a Western point of view). However, to make more sense of what is happening in China here is an illustration of what I think is actually happening there.
Imagine the Chinese government is an unfaithful husband and the wife and children are the people of China. But, the experience of the wife and children is much different than we are experiencing in the rest of the world.
The wife (the population of China says to her husband) "The children and I need to know, have you been unfaithful with 40 women this past month? People in the village are telling us that."
The Husband (The Chinese Government says) "Don't believe those people. I'm your husband and sole support and you couldn't survive without me. You and the children all would starve to death without me. Don't question me. I haven't slept with any women. I am a faithful husband."
Now, both the children and the wife know this isn't true. However, it is true that this is the only Husband and father they have and this husband is their sole support. So, what do they do?
This I think is a realistic assessment of what it would be like to live in China right now. The husband might be used to be unfaithful. The wife might be used to this too. The children would starve without the husband. So, what do they do?
We might all think this is completely crazy and yet we have all seen this before on a smaller scale.
But, the real question is this: "How does the rest of the world keep this situation from turning into a world wide Great depression eventually?"
Because the truth always comes out eventually and changes everything. What happens now?
