DALLAS – A Dallas mother who protected her four sons during a
shooting at a protest on Thursday broke down while speaking to the media
on Sunday.
According to ABC News,
Shetamia Taylor, 37, jumped on top of her one son when she heard two gun shots.
“My son went to grab me but I was already shot so I grabbed him and
lay on top of him. Police asked was anybody hit, because he didn’t know I
was shot. I said yes, but not loud enough because I didn’t want my son
to hear. The officer got on top of me and covered me and my son. Another
cop [was] at my feet and another [stood] by us and they protected us. I
saw another officer get shot in front of me.”
She said “I’m so thankful” when talking about the officers who protected her and her sons.
She said she remembered seeing one officer tell another that one of
their coworkers didn’t make it and said she felt guilty celebrating that
her kids were alive.
“Thank you for being heroes,” she said to police on Sunday.
