A Kansas City, Kan., police officer was killed in a shooting Tuesday afternoon, according to reports.
The officer was shot at 22nd St. and Haskell Ave. in the city across the state line from Kansas City, Mo., said Kansas City Police Chief Terry Zeigler.
Police took two people into custody in connection with the shooting, but two suspects are wanted after fleeing the scene, officials with the department told WDAF-TV.

The officer later died in a hospital, sources told KCTV.
“We have an officer shot at 22nd & Haskell,” Zeigler said on Twitter. “Start prayers, unknown condition.”
Police later surrounded a nearby home on suspicion that a suspect was barricaded inside. Footage from the search for the suspects by KMBC-TV showed officers in bulletproof vests massing around a house in a suburban neighborhood.
A person who reported being shot at by several people in a vehicle called police to 2nd St. and Edgerton Drive around 1:30 p.m., Officer T.J. Tomasic told The Kansas City Star. Three or four people jumped out of the car right when the officers arrived, and police said they immediately took one of them into custody.
The wounded officer was hit by a person who fired multiple shots when the officer tried to make a stop at 22nd and Haskell 30 minutes later, police said.
A woman and two children later left the surrounded home at 17th St. and Quindaro under protection from a SWAT team, the newspaper reported. Police searched the home but left without finding any suspects.
