Stephen Colbert crashed the stage during preparations for the Republican National Convention in Cleveland on Sunday to poke fun at presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.
But “The Late Show” host’s stunt lasted less than a minute before a security guard quickly escorted him away.
The video below ― which shows the comedian seizing the microphone while dressed as Caesar Flickerman, the host from “The Hunger Games” movie franchise ― was posted online and is now going viral.

The footage begins with Colbert announcing at the lectern that the presumptive GOP presidential candidate “has formed an alliance with Indiana Governor Mike Pence.”
It’s reminiscent of how the blue-haired Flickerman, portrayed by Stanley Tucci in the “Hunger Games” movies, reveals the alliances between the contestants battling it out to survive the games.
Colbert then drops his head, pretending to fall unconscious. “Sorry, I blacked out there for a moment,” he says a few seconds later, before revealing it was his “honor” to launch “the 2016 Republican National Hungry for Power Games.”
When a security guard begins to usher him away, Colbert admits that he’s “not supposed to be up here.”
“But to be honest, neither is Donald Trump,” he quips as the clip cuts out.
Colbert also tweeted this photograph of his costumed self on the final day of preparations for the convention, which begins Monday:
It’s not the first time Colbert has used “The Hunger Games” to spoof the GOP. He also referenced it when the party was whittling down its list of candidates toward the end of 2015.
“This vicious battle for survival in a cutthroat arena reminds me of ‘The Hunger Games,’ in that hundreds of millions of dollars will be spent and in four years, there’s going to be another one,” he said last September.

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liarrampant xenophoberacistmisogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.
