- That's right! Ships either run into each other, they run aground, or have other problems like believing they are somewhere they are not.
- Russia Spoofs GPS signal to make ship think it's 20 miles away on land!
So, Russia's ability to spoof GPS could be fatal not only for ships but also even more so for jet fighters, Cruise missiles, Drones and even parachuting deployed soldiers anywhere on earth.
Imagine Seal Team six parachuting into the middle of the ocean with no one there to pick them up? Because the GPS of their drop plane was off 20 miles and then suddenly corrected. You then have eventually a possibly permanently lost Seal Team 6 if they cannot regain contact with them with someone with a sextant to give their star location from the ocean.
So, the ability to spoof GPS signals would be fatal especially for Jet fighters and for missiles not hitting their intended targets.
For example, what if we had a war with North Korea and Russia decided to route all cruise missiles of the U.S. directly into Seoul, South Korea instead of North Korea?
If you can spoof a ships GPS you can also spoof any missiles GPS or Fighter jets GPS too!
So, anything that moves fast needs GPS for navigation. And the faster it travels the more likely it will run into something and explode or crash without exact instantaneous GPS locations in places the U.S. or other countries might not want it to.
Here's the last problem. (there may be others too). A cell phone cannot work if it is being GPS spooked because the right microwave tower won't be contacted in order to send or receive a call. A Satellite phone in this situation may or may not work either because I believe it too uses a GPS signal.
So, basically, if you can spoof GPS then absolutely nothing electrical basically works that you need anywhere on earth if it moves when it is spoofed.
