my estimate for 4 billion dead is likely realistic between now and 2100

When I look at this carefully regarding Global Warming, there are the educated with resources and then there are a whole lot of dead people by 2100.

Those educated can realize that they need to move to migrate to another location to stay alive. Those without education or resources might not be able to.

Those who stay in bad situations (unless they move underground or something like that or have access to air conditioning in some locations might be doomed to die of starvation or heat prostration one of the two or from bad water or from bad air.

When I think back of at least 1/2 of the people in India in 1985 and 1986 having no education whatsoever (even 1st grade then) it makes me think a lot about 3rd world nations in general worldwide where public education is either non-existent or non-compulsory so what happens is kids either teach themselves or their parents teach them (If they still have parents alive or grandparents still alive caring for them.

So, from this point of view about 1/2 of the people of earth might not read or write any language on earth. These are the people most likely to die from global warming first who don't have an education and who don't have resources to move to another location to survive what is coming.

For example, when I look at the hardest hit people in the Bahamas, for example, I think to myself, "How are these people going to survive the next 20 storms to hit the Bahamas? without an infrastructure how are they supposed to survive?" The answer likely is: "They can't or won't."

The same is true of countless others worldwide for a total of at least 4 billion souls that are not going to make it given all present variables by 2100.

Will they be counted in any useful tally? Probably not.

It's sort of like the thousands likely dead in the Bahamas with the accepted count now of "more than 50" who are dead which is completely unrealistic but saying this might prevent people running screaming away from the Bahamas never to return there again because of the thousands of ghosts who died likely unhappy and milling about now all over where the worst hit areas are now.

This is where reality and fantasy mix with what is expedient to keep the Bahamas as a land and a people still alive and kicking ongoing by the way.

The truth is: "Most people cannot handle the full truth!"
