Generating Compassion

When I studied with Tibetan Lamas a lot in the 1980s from around 1983 to 1990 the most I was taught about "Generating Compassion".

This was a very interesting concept to me because I understood Christian Grace and I understood Christian Forgiveness but Generating Compassion was a whole new concept to get used to.

I have found Generating compassion for all life in the universe (as long as you aren't unrealistic about what is really happening around you in life is one of the most powerful ideas I have ever learned about in my entire life.

Another idea that I was taught by my parents was "visualizing what I wanted in life" and manifesting it by being a Co-Creator with God. I found that by joining together Visualizing what I wanted in life with Generating Compassion that the combination was off the charts in the power that it actually had in my life.

Often God wants a much better life for you than you already have. The problem often becomes that you are too attached to your limited concepts to accept the better life that God wants to give you.

So, the trick then is to somehow let go of your limited concepts so God can give you want he wants.

But, what I have noticed in life is that God might just take away Everything from you in order to give you want you want.

For example, I asked for "The Leisure to Practice" in my prayers from about 1983 until 1998. But, when it came I wasn't ready for it. Because how did it come? I got a heart virus and unless I retired I was going to die right then. So, for 8 months I waited to die but I didn't die but I had to stay retired and staying retired caused me to have "The Leisure to Practice" (praying without ceasing 24 hours a day). So, basically I have been pretty much praying without ceasing since 1998 now and blogging is just one part of this praying in action 24 hours a day.

So Generating compassion might be easier to understand when you think of yourself like being a gasoline or diesel Electric Generator. If you are started up and running you can run all the power to your house, maybe your friends and relatives houses because you are praying for all of them all of the time so only mostly good things happen in their lives. So, thinking of yourself as a 24 hour a day electric generator generating prayers that change EVERYONE'S life for the better not only here on earth but all life in the past present and future of the entire universe as well!

If this concept works for you then you should go with it. But, a part of thinking like a Buddhist is taking personal responsibility for your life and everything in your life. And if you have God in your life like I do it just means that God likely sees you as an adult and not just as a child like he might see most people.

And as an added gift of being like this: As you pray for everyone else that powerful prayer cycle goes out and changes their lives and then circles back like Good Karma and returns and changes your life for the better 100 fold too. And then you keep it moving and it amplifies out and helps everyone again again and again into infinity becoming more powerful in each prayer cycle ongoing.
