Bunny Flats and Horse Camp

My son-in-law went up to Horse Camp on skis with friends of mine today. I'm not adjusted to the altitude enough yet to climb up on skis with skins (skins are made of rubber or plastic now days but once were I think made of seal skin in order to go uphill on snow with skis on. The skis act as both skis and snow shoes and the skins allow you to go uphill with them at quite steep angles on cross country or metal edged mountaineering skis. They were all on metal edged mountaineering skis because they are much safer in these kinds of conditions than without metal edges. I had regular cross country skis without metal edges and once hit ice and went sideways down a slope because I couldn't get an edge on the ice. After that I ALWAYS ski cross country with metal edges on mountains because it isn't safe to ski that way unless you are on the level on a country road or something but where the slopes are severe you need metal edges to stay alive and not slide sideways on ice into a tree and lights out! Even on ice in most places you can get an edge with your metal edges and be okay if your slopes are not too steep to grab and edge and if the ice is soft enough to get enough of an edge. If it's too icy to get an edge you shouldn't be skiing anyway unless you are suicidal.

Anyway, Bunny Flat was a parking lot today because the ski lift isn't open yet at mt. Shasta Ski park but likely it will be by around this weekend with all the snow coming starting Wednesday through Sunday or Monday.

I haven't seen the snow at Bunny flat this chewed up many times in. my life. NO restaurants and no theaters means everyone was sledding or skiing or snowboarding near bunny flats and below the road there were snowmobilers too.
