Problems with Mountain lions and Coyote packs locally

I live along the northern coast of California. However, neighbors have seen on their security video cameras live cougars of over 150 pounds walking by within several houses of us. This doesn't make people feel very safe but it is because there is no deer hunting where I live and the deer like to eat the grass of the golf courses especially and are also a tourist attraction for people who haven't been around a lot of deer before. Even though deer are likely a greater threat to humans (realistically) than mountain lions are especially if they have antlers (and they do this time of year). They are definitely a threat to dogs if they are off leash and have seen what a buck with antlers can do to a large dog up close and personal but luckily it wasn't my dog.

They are warning local residents that pets are being taken out of back yards any time of day by both mountain lions and coyotes locally. Mountain lions normally only hunt around daybreak and around sunset. These are the times mountain lions like to hunt for food. And in California especially female joggers and runners are often picked off from behind and are grabbed by the back of their necks on Fire roads and trails throughout California when this happens. Also, male and female bicyclists, especially mountain bikers get picked off from behind but normally it is smaller females that are more likely to be taken. Now, we must have a bumper crop of coyotes in packs locally for some reason as well. The last few years Up until May of 2019 there has been enough water but none really much since may of 2019.

We are also thinking about letting our dog out all day if the coyotes are picking off local pets like they are too lately.

So, whatever the reason, mountain lions and coyotes are a problem this month or this time of year here where we live on the northern California coast.
