But Pragmatism might.
This was the single hardest survival lesson of my teens, twenties and even a little into my 30s.
For people who have a really rough childhood, maybe they learned this then (if they actually survive their childhood).
But, it is a very hard lesson for all of us who survive until we are 30 years old.
We might want to believe all sorts of things like religions, or politics of various kinds. But, eventually we either become pragmatic or we don't survive mentally or physically to even reach 30 without pragmatism if we are the ones financially supporting ourselves.
Because it's true if you are not struggling financially to support yourself you can delude yourself with every sort of idealism you can think of. And it can be very heady stuff indeed this idealism.
But, in the end pragmatism might solve your problems but it isn't as satisfying as your dreams and idealism are somehow.
Pragmatism is basically
- 1.a pragmatic attitude or policy."ideology was tempered with pragmatism"
- 2.PHILOSOPHYan approach that assesses the truth of meaning of theories or beliefs in terms of the success of their practical application.
So, what I'm saying here is best understood through the philosophical meaning listed above.
If whatever you are doing or not doing isn't assessed through whether it is successful or not then it is harming you in the short or long run.
And not seeing things this way eventually results in either insanity or death or both. This is why pragmatism IS PHYSICAL SURVIVAL for most people on earth.
Idealism feels good but in the end it doesn't solve any of your basic real problems that you deal with every day in life.
And if your idealism is too great then your molehill problems become mountains over time and then they become insurmountable and at some point you are no more (mentally or physically) as an adult.
This is one reason why I run my website this way because even though I would rather be philosophical or idealistic or spiritual, we are in times "That TRY everyone's souls" and during times like these unless we are laser focused on solving problems, ALL of us are soon extinct in the world the way it presently is.
