Life Begins at 40?

My life (this part of my life) began when I was about 46 years old and started a new life here on the Northern California coast. But, it took me almost dying at 50 for things to really get going when I was forced to retire because of my health.

It's odd how life can be. When you are young often your life is about making enough money to take good care of your wife and kids and then often in your 40s things can change I guess.

So, by some miracle and praying a lot I was able to retire by age 50 so I have been retired now since 1998.

So, though my life didn't begin at 40 exactly it fully began by the time I almost died for 8 or 9 months in 1998 and 1999.

So, probably more realistically, my life began at 50 after doctors told me I might recover and not die in May of 1999.

In the fall my wife decide to stay home and send me and my mother and my 10 year old daughter to Europe for 3 weeks. For me, it was to convince myself that I hadn't died and so this woke me up a lot.

Because thinking I was going to die from Fall of 1998 to May of 1999 changes a person a lot.

The biggest change for me was that I stopped being sort of in a middle Aged Crazy kind of thing where my youth was gone and the ground was coming up too fast for me and I had to face my death. This makes many men so crazy they are unfaithful to their wives and this is never a good thing for anyone in the long run.

So, for me, almost dying for 8 or 9 months made me grateful for my marriage and my kids and for every moment of time God was going to give me. Being grateful for each moment that God gives us is a much better way to live because you are happy and grateful in every moment you have left with your family and friends.

By God's Grace
