There likely are few places as good for using this technology as moving from Reno across Nevada heading east and north on Interstate 80.
My experience of Driver assist technology is a lot like going on autopilot when flying a plane. You have already taken off and engaged the necessary things set the trim and adjusted the throttle for the altitude and then you set the automatic pilot in place.
It's like that because then your main job is to spot other planes that might run into you and watch out for mountains at your altitude and for bad weather.
The difference with Drive Assist technology is that I find the automatic steering is kind of still experimental.
What do I mean by this?
Well. For example, it wants to steer too close to Semi Trucks and motor homes and other large trucks for me to feel safe. So, I'm left with either disengaging the automatic steering or having it fight me a little and trying to pull into the truck to my right as I pass it. Then it's still fighting me after I pass the truck and it almost is trying to go into the truck's lane after I pass it. Then if I'm lucky it doesn't take us into the next lane before it starts flashing red lights because it accidentally changed lanes. So, this is the main problem I have with automatic steering.
But, the bees knees is cruise control with automatic braking. This is truly wonderful!
Why?
Because you can set the cruise control for any speed and set the automatic braking for 4 car lengths if you wish like I do for safety which is amazing because as long as the cruise control is set for more speed than the car in front of you is going the automatic braking will slow down to 4 car lengths automatically and won't go forward and speed up until it is clear in front of you.
This is the best thing yet regarding automatic braking and cruise control.
