I have begun to read Ray Kurzweil's latest book which is called: "The Singularity is nearer when we merge with AI."
The title gives credit to Ray Kurzweil in being precognitive in predicting not only the fall of the Soviet Union when it happened but also regarding when Cell phones would become more intelligent than the average person (About now) and also predicting the Singularity.
For those of you who don't know what the Singularity is Here is something from Wikipedia about it:
begin quotes.
Technological singularity
The technological singularity—or simply the singularity—is a hypothetical future point in time at which technological growth becomes uncontrollable and ...
The technological singularity or tech singularity is the idea that a machine or computer, or a group of machines and computers, will one day be smarter than ...
The Singularity Is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology is a 2005 non-fiction book about artificial intelligence and the future of humanity by inventor and ...
From my present point of view a human's view of Singularity is likely not complete at this point. Even Kurzweil cannot predict how it will occur completely or whether humans will survive this or not.
I look at it a lot like Childbirth. Like a new rebirth of the human race. Will the child or butterfly be healthy or will it die or self destruct in the process? This is an unknown at present.
However, just like a very pregnant woman, unless she terminates the pregnancy or has a miscarriage it is going to happen whether she survives it or the baby survives it or not.
This is pretty inevitable right now. How it will all go is up to each one of us at this point.
My more maybe idealistic but possibly practical view of all this is that we either become symbiotic with AI in some form it it kills us or something else might happen instead.
But I agree with Bill Gates in that Ray Kurzweil appears to be the best person at present at predicting the future of artificial intelligence and always has been most of his adult life.
He is presently I think 76 years old which is my age I believe which is interesting to me too.
