IN 1985 and 1986 there were a lot of rich tourists. However, if you were just a college student or wanted to stay in youth hostels or Guest Houses as they are called in Asia often then at least. You wanted something like the Lonely Planet Travel Guides which were more for every day people like Backpackers and people who stay in Youth Hostels or who get Eurail passes on mainland Europe or Britrail passes in England or Scotland and maybe Ireland too. Not sure about railroads on Ireland because I haven't been to Ireland yet but my wife and three daughters went in 2018 when I was too sick to go with them then.
So, The Lonely Planet Travel Guides were OR Are the best for regular people who travel and don't want to get ripped off paying 5 or 10 times as much for everything more than they need to when they travel worldwide.
