However, the present government would be attacking Russia and basically declaring war on Russia to attack them at their bases in Syria. However, the other side of this is that it might be hard to defend these bases if enough guys with Kalashnikovs with Pickup trucks arrived at the same time.
However, Russia is an expert like the U.S. is also of Asynchronous warfare. So, for example, if Russia wanted to in response they could destroy wherever the new government considers to be it's capitol without warning if this new government messes with them at all. So, attacking Russian Bases could be very very costly for a bunch of guys with Kalashnikov rifles and rocket propelled grenades in pick up trucks who just took Damascus, and a lot of southern Syria.
