there is Growing concern from likely the New Mexico Border through a lot of Texas all the way to North Carolina starting Saturday

If you look at these temperatures for Austin Texas for example, (where my daughter and her boyfriend live) you can see by Sunday night the temperatures dip to 25 degrees. Though there are many places in the U.S. that are used to this that wouldn't be this far south in Texas to North Carolina where it might freeze almost every night from Sunday night to Friday. However, the problem is if the ice coating the power lines from the freezing rain brings down power lines then this adds to the problem and people could die from Texas to North Carolina if they don't have a fireplace or some place to keep warm out of the weather.

I don't know if you have ever been to Austin but I have and mostly it is very hot there almost year around. So, the biggest problem would be losing power and possibly pipes freezing and keeping people from freezing under these conditions where water pipes might not be buried that deep so they might freeze under these conditions.

What is strange about water pipes (if you aren't used to this cold of weather especially at night) is that the first pipes to freeze are always your hot water pipes for some reason. I don't really understand what this is true but once you get a frozen hot water pipe then you lose water pressure because you have to turn off your water because it will be leaking and making ice sculptures under your house or wherever the pipes freeze. So, then you lose water and you lose your toilets functioning on top of no power or heat possibly which is a lot for many people to deal with who aren't used to weather this cold.

And the fact that this looks like it goes on like this for a week or so means that likely like in 2021 some people might die from freezing to death that aren't prepared for this food wise or in other ways too. So, this could get pretty bad for some people during this time the next week or so especially at night when temperatures dip in Austin down to 17 to 19 degrees a few nights.

The problem is that below 25 degrees Fahrenheit is when pipes might freeze usually either spigots outside of a house or building that are not wrapped with insulating foam pieces or the pipes might freeze under a house or building or even in a cement slab if they build that way in Texas like they do in California sometimes. A Broken pipe in a cement Slab is a really awful thing to deal with by the way because you would have to jackhammer out the cement to fix something like this if the pipes broke in the cement slab of a house or other building.
