They enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps reserves in 1934 until 1937. But, the XF12C-1 is what was flying in 1933 when they enlisted so they probably started out at least in this plane:
(my uncle was born in 1912 and my father was born in 1916) so their enlistment ended in 1937 and they flew in the same squadron together in Seattle, Washington.
