For people traveling to California for the first time

Some people might worry about earthquakes but mostly that's not practical to do. It's sort of like Tornadoes or Hurricanes, you watch out for them but where they hit is mostly unexpected often. Just like me here in Mt. Shasta. Did I feel the quake in Ridgecrest? No. Not at all. So, unless you were right in Ridgecrest (and even I have only been there a couple of times in my life) you aren't going to see damage. And this was the first big earthquake in California in 20 years too. We have had an amazingly calm spell (which also could mean that bigger quakes could happen soon because of the tensions on moving plates underground.)

So, basically, worrying about earthquakes isn't usually useful. It's good to be psychologically prepared for an earthquake anytime but that is sort of like being prepared for things that fall off trucks and cars like recaps from tires on the road as you travel. What I mean by this is you don't know what is going to happen until it happens so just be prepared for anything in life and often you are okay through almost anything.

So, basically what is the probability you are going to see an earthquake in California while you are visiting? ON a probability level it is likely less than 1%. Earthquakes happen here but the ones you need to be concerned about not for about 20 years until this one in Ridgecrest Yesterday.
