Since they didn't want me working as much at jobs they bought me a VW Bug 1965
3 of the 4 are Seablue with a White Interior like my first VW Bug. I put what was then called an "Exhaust Extractor which made it sound like a loud sports car and I loved the sounds it made when I drove it through the 4 speed shift pattern of a capital H shape of a Bug. This is where I discovered that I could drive hundreds of miles for basically pennies and started driving up to Mt. Shasta, to San Diego, to the deserts, the mountains, Skiing, swimming, Surfing, Hiking, Biking, all sorts of things with friends and girlfriends.
I also added a Camber compensator which kept it from turning over in too sharp a turn which the 1965 and earlier did a lot if you went around a corner too fast with independent suspension like the 1965 and earlier had. By 1966 they corrected this fault with a built in camber compensator that came stock along with a bigger engine so you could go a little faster.
My parents purchased this when I came home after graduating from a private school in Santa Fe, New Mexico for my senior year in High school. They likely bought it for me during the summer before I started college. Though I missed my surf wagon somehow my parents felt safer with me driving the Bug. The advantage for me was I could afford to drive to all the western states whenever I had the time or friends who wanted to travel with me and share money for gas.
