This video is for educational purposes only. I did not make this film, i am uploading it for educational purposes As I am listening to and watching this documentary I am also composing this that I'm writing for you.
I found this documentary interesting so I thought I would share this with you.
Asimo can maintain a speed of approximately 6 miles per hour ongoing which is about like a human jogging or walking fairly fast.
What I found interesting about this was that even though Asimo could walk on flat surfaces and and listen to multiple requests from people at the same time it could not navigate over rough surfaces. So, even though it was useful in a home or office environment it was not useful over rough terrain which was what was needed for navigating the Fukushima disaster. So, Honda specifically designed a robot for Fukushima use.
Though American technology through robots could negotiate the rough terrain Fukushima presented severe problems regarding turning off valves which it appears neither U.S. nor Japanese technology could do at that time. So, Honda designed a robot to turn off or on valves as needed so humans didn't have to die doing this and receive a lethal dose of radiation moving the valves.
During the last 5 to 6 minutes of this video they demonstrate Baxter which is a trainable robot designed to safely work around people in factories. You can take baxter's hand and within 5 minutes by your training him he can learn almost any physical factory like task and if ordered to he will repeat this task for up to 3 years 24 hours a day in making or building anything you want or even rebuilding things to order where multiple units need to be manufactured.
