View of Mt. Shasta and Castle Lake from Heart Lake: February 2014
I shared this photo once before but I had it on my desktop and I clicked on it and it enlarged and I thought, "Literally everything you see here should be covered with snow and ice on Castle Lake. Only Heart Lake to the left is covered with ice in this February 2014. I shouldn't have been able to get to this location on foot this time of year without either snow shoes or mountaineering Cross Country skis with metal edges, but I was able to this year. This is an example of just how bad the drought is this year. There has literally been no year in my life that I know of (and I'm presently 66) that Castle Lake wasn't frozen over and everything you see wasn't covered by ice and snow on any year since I have been alive in February of any year except this one. Click on the photo and it should enlarge.
