Whether the U.S. wanted this or not this is the exact calculus of fighting ISIS in Syria. Though on some levels Assad paid off ISIS in oil wells and lands to keep them from attacking him. He also paid off ISIS in oil wells and lands and villages to fight Sunni Rebels that Only wanted to overthrow Assad.
So, to view ISIS as paid Assassins of Assad might be a useful point of view. However, like most things ISIS is infinitely more complicated than that.
LIke ISIS selling refined oil back to Assad or generating electricity and selling that to Assad too and taking all kinds of bribes from Assad to kill Moderate Sunni Rebels Against Assad.
So, Middle Eastern Style Assad has manuevered ISIS into a type of corner waiting for the U.S. to finish ISIS off. This likely has been Assad's plan all along.
You might think what I'm saying is very cynical and it is. Unfortunately, it is also true.
And in the end Assad might have just engineered his staying in power while ISIS is wiped out!
And this will anger all Sunnis more than you can presently believe.
However, paradoxically, it will also keep all Sunni governments like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan etc. in power. Because ISIS won't have the firepower to take any of them down completely after the U.S. gets finished with them.
Also, the U.S. and Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and other Sunni nations will be empowered because they stood up to ISIS.
So, this is a real paradox and one wonders how it is all going to turn out in the short and long run for everyone?
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
