The fire at Chicago's Air Traffic Control facility once again brings the attention of the U.S. and the world on the Air Traffic Control hub's lack of innovation regarding Air Traffic Control. If this incident had happened during peak flying takeoff and landing hours instead of at around 6 am live very easily could have been lost. Miles Obrien of CNN was reporting on this today regarding how the technology at Chicago Air Traffic Control Hub is basically 1951 because airlines don't want to update the technology aboard planes. So, Air Traffic Controllers do the work of a 10 pound bag within the confines of a 5 pound bag. In otherwords they are asked to do miracles everyday without proper satellite technology to actually keep people safe flying through the U.S. skies. As a result there are often near misses almost every day because of this 1951 technology not really updated.
This was reported by Miles Obrien on Fredrika Whitfield's show on CNN TV today.
