This appears at present to be what is going to happen. A few years ago before ISIL came to power I would have said to you that Assad would have lost power by now. But, with Russia's help, Iran's help and Hezbollah's help and now ISIL's help likely Assad will stay in power because as bad as Assad used to be, nothing is worse (at present) here on earth than ISIL. It is possible that ISIL is the most anti-human existence group we have seen in the last 100 years here on earth, even worse maybe than Hitler.
However, they still haven't massacred the 2 to 3 million in the Killing fields that Pol Pot did either.
