The World will be what all humans individually and collectively decide it will be

The Robotization and Computerization of the World ...

Why is a college education important?
Is it important because you can make a whole lot more money?
Is it intrinsically useful to you and your friends and family?

Maybe it is all these things and more.

Critical thinking might be one of the most important things you learn in college.

To learn to think for yourself rather than to only think subjectively like a slave.

As more and more people release their full creativity through critical thinking,
it is possible to make the world someplace people will actually want to live in
in the near and far future.

However, if instead the world simply becomes overpopulated like now with more people than it can sustain then life will consist of wars looking very much like Syria and ISIS all over the earth and Earth will only be a hellhole with the 51 million or more displaced people like Angelina Jolie says now exist because of the Syrian conflict and the influence of Russia, Iran and the rest of the world into the mix.

What would have created a better outcome in the middle east?

Birth control by itself could have prevented most or all the deaths happening right now, if it had been applied starting around the 1960s.

However, religions like Catholicism and Islam are very strict about not using birth control.

At one time, thinking like this created the survival of Catholicism and Islam. But now, they are the death of both religions as people breed themselves into hell realms where there aren't enough jobs, water or food in much of the world where people don't practice birth control.

Places like Syria and Iraq with groups like ISIL and Al Qaeda and others only really exist because of overpopulation. Otherwise, there would be no need filled by the creation of completely genocidal groups that kill basically the normal people of every group including Sunnis like something out of the Old Testament over 2000 years ago where people kill all the men of every minority and take and rape their women and force those women to bear children to raise more terrorists.

The two factors that could make life on earth worthwhile likely would be a college education guaranteed for everyone by their governments, teaching critical thinking which would create a world we all would actually want to live in instead of out of control population growth that ONLY is going to create groups like ISIL and Al Qaeda and others whose only real goal at this point is the genocide of all mankind.
